![]() ![]() “This new line removes the price limitations of the Uni-Fi 2.0 series along with the technical barriers associated with that price point. The new ELAC Uni-Fi Reference speakers are another attempt to offer more for less and push the performance bar even higher. Not enough brands, but there have never been as many excellent affordable high-end audio products as right now. Nobody is telling anyone to stop manufacturing $50,000 speakers, $25,000 turntables, or $10,000 amplifiers there is a trickle-down effect with some brands to more affordable products that more people can afford. Most likely when he was at Pioneer and had to create budget-priced loudspeakers that were a lot better than the competition below $300/pair.Īudiophiles don’t want to hear this but we need to break up this exclusive club if we want it to survive and grow. A $10,000 loudspeaker can’t be a bargain if less than 1% of the human race can ever afford it.Īndrew Jones figured this out a long time ago. It’s tiring reading reviews of $10,000 speakers called “bargains” by the press. I know that sounds like a dirty word right now but “affordability” is the key to growing a new generation of music listeners who actually care about better sound quality. High-end audio needs more people like him Paul Barton of PSB Speakers is another example of a globally respected loudspeaker designer who has the resources to create anything he wants but would rather focus on great sounding loudspeakers that people can afford. His new range of ELAC Uni-Fi Reference speakers are another example of his engineering savvy and desire to create more with less. The esteemed loudspeaker designer could be engineering products for anyone at this point without concern for price, but his focus continues to be creating great sounding affordable loudspeakers that the average music lover can afford. You could ask Eric at Tekton.ELAC’s Andrew Jones is a really intriguing guy. The Tekton Pendragons could also be an option though i think he raised the prices recently. It may not fit under 2k anymore, but, there may be other Tekton options that are quite good. If you want to go a more predictable Maggie route.Magnepan 0.7 can be had for 1400/pair Technics SB-C700 (1700/pair, Openbox can be found sometimes for 1000ish/pair, a.k.a you could ask the guys at hifi heaven if they will cut you a deal on a open box.).i personally like these better than the Elac unifi reference bookshelves. I would go with a Andrew Jones's floorstander rather than than his bookshelf anyday unless you have a nicely treated room. It is a shame that they discontinued the very unique Adantes. The Adante floorstanders can sound like jawdropping stuff (TADs etc) when paired with some beefy class A. Or the floorstanders (but, they will exceed the 2k budget slightly unless they go on sale) Uni-Fi Reference UBR62 Bookshelf Speakers Here are others that fit in the 1k to 2k rangeĮlac unifi reference bookshelf speakers (1200/pair) If you like concentric designs, the good KEFs exceed 2k as i mentioned earlier. JBL HDI-1600 2-Way Bookshelf Loudspeaker - Each Studio 590 | 250-watt, dual 8" floorstanding loudspeaker The JBL studio 590 is 50% off at the moment (2000 MSRP, can be had for 1k now a.k.a great price!!) I found the waveguide implementations on these JBLs very entertaining ![]() It depends on the kind of sound you're into, of course. But, the following are ok for the price ime. You have better options in the 5k and under category. Click to expand. There are many diplomatic reviewer let downs (fake hype) in this price bracket. ![]()
